Quote (with modification by me): Amazon Instant Video prompts me to install Silverlight, but has a link to a Flash version of their video player, which still works just fine. In Firefox I can only use Silverlight to view Amazon Instant Video (.) Actually (if the information I'm providing you is not outdated/obsolete) you can use Flash as well. Anyone got any ideas as to why I can't use Amazon's HTML5 Player? Both FF and Chrome have HTML5 DRM Support and YouTube's HTML5 player works just fine in FF. I don't want to use the Silverlight Player but it seems that Amazon's site is forcing Silverlight as even if I disable the plugin it says to install it. Transitioning from Flash to HTML can take several months and may require new skills. HTML5 video is enabled through browser support for video and audio playback, Javascript extensions to control that playback, and ecosystem support for critical functions such as content protection and advertising.
#Html5 plugin for firefox mp4#
The main reason for the limited support revolves around the royalty fee attached to the mp4 format. Support was not added until Firefox 21, and it is still limited to Windows 7 and above. This is caused by the limited support for the MP4 format within the video tag in Firefox. In Chrome I had to install a DRM Plugin (Widevine CDM) so I installed the same in Firefox from their website but still with no joy. It seems that in FIrefox (and IE) I can only use SIlverlight to view Amazon Instant VIdeo, whereas in Chrome it uses Amazon's new HTML5 player.
